Probably IMI took a page out of FN's book, and deliberately coded its serialization to its customers and dissembled to conceal its volume of production.Desirable ‘pre-ban’ semi-automatic carbine chambered in 9x19mm, manufactured in Israel by Israeli Military Industries circa 1980 – 1983. My advice: Stop trying to make sense out of it. Where does a 7-digit number beginning with '2' that turns up in New Zealand fit into this scheme? Incidentally, the '2' in the photo looks like it was not stamped at the same time as the other digits. Relatively few of these came to the USA the rest went elsewhere. So what conclusions can be drawn? As far as US imports are concerned, the number of digits used is haphazard, but the absolute numbers after 1968 seem to go in straight-line progression from 51,000 to 98,000. More came in for police departments and dealer samples in the early 1970s these had 6-digit s/ns that ascended accordingly: by 1983, the 6-digit s/ns had reached 98-thousand. ![]() Thereafter, in 1968 more came in for the USG, but with 6 digits beginning with '0', surprisingly in a lower 51-thousand range.ġ970), a batch came in for the Secret Service these had 7-digit numbers beginning with '00', in the 56-thousand range. The serial numbers were only 5 digits, in the 98-thousand range. True SMG UZIs from Israel came into the USA beginning in late 1967, brought in for the US Gov't. I'd suggest looking for any Israeli sites that specialize in the gun or information about it. Might try googling a list of dates of manufacture with serial ranges for the IMI UZI.Keep in mind that most of the google resources for UZIs wil be for US compliant semi-autos and US registered variants rather than for orignal IMI factory guns. ![]() Buyers and sellersare required to know and comply with all applicable local, state and federal firearm laws. My vague memory of pre-ban days of yore, is that the Uzi pistol was called. Could the prefix 'SA' on the serial number mean its a Model A? The mini carbines were marked 'MC' and the Uzi pistols started 'UP'. ![]()
